On the scene of a raging apartment building fire, responding Orange County Sheriff's Office deputies spotted a frantic mother on a third-floor balcony with her baby as flames shot from their apartment.

The danger was imminent, and Deputy William Puzynski did not hesitate. He shed his outer ballistic vest and climbed the outside balconies to reach the 1-year-old girl.

Desperate to save her baby, the grateful mother handed the child to Deputy Puzynski, and he lowered her to other deputies on the ground.

Using a ladder, firefighters then brought the mother and grandmother down to safety. Thankfully, no one died in the fire.
