This summer the Fond du Lac Police Department's School Resource Officer Unit teamed up with the Department of Social Services and the Fond du Lac School District to create a Youth Advocacy Program. Fond du Lac Police Officers are beginning to realize authentic relationships with our community's future leaders. The Youth Advocacy Program in collaboration with the Department of Social Services and the School District continues to provide opportunities to build special relationships where we get to know each other better which contributes to increased trust, safety, and positive relationships. The Youth Advocacy Program provides opportunities to build and maintain a trustworthy relationship especially with our youth in our marginalized communities affected by discrimination, racism, and bias. The Youth Advocacy Program allows perceptions to change, approaches to policing to change, and biases to change as the Program breaks down barriers and cultivates a community of understanding and togetherness. The Youth Advocacy Program provides opportunities to our youth that wouldn't normally get those opportunities. This includes going to events like the Fondy Sports Complex, roller-skating, going to Bay Beach, go-karts, laser tag, and many other fun outings. The Program also provides food as we have realized many of our youth in the Program don't always have food readily available in their homes. Currently this program supports 20 kids however the need is greater.
